Christine Hofmann is Director a.i. of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). She's responsible for the division Climate, the Legal division, for the International Affairs Division and the Communcation Division and the sections Human Resources; Finances and Controlling; IT, Logistics and Organisation , and Political Affairs.
Christine Hofmann was born on 5 February 1960 in Basel. After obtaining her baccalaureate in Reussbühl (LU), she earned degrees in art history, literary criticism and philosophy at the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne.
From 1985 to 1988, Christine Hofmann worked for the Swiss Institute for Art Research and also taught at the commercial training college in Zurich. In 1989, Christine Hofmann took a post at the Federal Office of Culture (FOC). She was employed in the general cultural issues section, working her way up to become a senior desk officer, and in 1995 adviser to the Director and member of the Board of Directors. During this time, she was also in charge of projects for marking the 150th anniversary of the founding of the modern federal state. In 1998, Mrs Hofmann became Co-Secretary General of the Mayor's Office of the city of Bern, before taking on the position of Head of the Coordination and Resources division of the Swiss Agency for the Environment, Forests and Landscape (SAEFL) in 2001.
As of January 2006, Mrs Hofmann has been appointed as a Vice-Director of the FOEN; as of 2010, she has been appointed as Deputy Director. She is responsible for the Climate division, the Legal divison, the Communication and the International Affairs division and the sections Human Resources; Finances and Controlling; IT, Logistics and Organisation , and Political Affairs.
