CLRTAP: Working Group on Strategies and Review

The Working Group on Strategies and Review (WGSR) is is the most important negotiating body for the Convention. It supports the Executive Body with policy issues. The FOEN is representing Switzerland in the WGSR and the subordinated task forces.

This is the most important negotiating body for the Convention. It supports the Executive Body with policy issues, and has been chaired by a Swiss representative since 1999.

The main activities of the Working Group on Strategies and Review are as follows:

  • Evaluation of scientific and technical activities relating to the preparation and reviewing of the protocols
  • Negotiation of amendments to the existing protocols and the drafting of new protocols
  • Promotion of technology exchange
  • Drafting of proposals for strategic development in the framework of the Convention

For these activities, the Working Group on Strategies and Review works closely together with the European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (EMEP) and the Working Group on Effects. Various task forces support the Working Group on Strategies and Review, including:

  • Task force on Techno-economic Issues (TFTEI)
  • Task Force on Reactive Nitrogen (TFRN)
  • Task Force on Integrated Assessment Modelling (TFIAM)
