Measures for the preservation and promotion of diversity

The preservation and sustainable use of biodiversity is a social, economic and technical challenge. The federal government has already taken measures for the preservation and promotion of biodiversity, including the compilation of an inventory of biotopes of national importance. While the loss of biodiversity has been slowed down, it has not been halted. Additional measures will be required in order to secure our natural capital. The Swiss Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan is intended to close this gap as of 2017.

Strategy & Actionplan

In order to preserve biodiversity and secure Switzerland’s ecological performance over the long term, on behalf of the Federal Council the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) is preparing a national strategy with specified targets. An action plan will define the targets and formulate the necessary measures. The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) is responsible for developing the action plan.
