Abridged version of Switzerland’s Fourth National Report
The 4th National Report illustrates the long history of interactions that forestry, agriculture and water management have sustained with biodiversity and the ecosystem services thus provided. It calls attention to the numerous pressures affecting biodiversity in Switzerland: landscape fragmentation, urban sprawl, expansion of the transport infrastructure, chemicals and nitrogen loading, disturbances due to leisure activities and tourism. The report concludes that the state of biodiversity in Switzerland remains globally unsatisfactory, despite the implementation of a broad range of measures, which have, in some cases, been successful.
