Effects of climate change

Switzerland is expected to be disproportionately affected by climate change, with impacts on the environment, the economy and society. In the long term the negative consequences will clearly outweigh the positive consequences.

Impacts on the natural systems

Climate change has implications for the water and material cycles, air quality as well as flora and fauna in Switzerland.

Impacts on society and economy

Climate change and its consequences for natural systems will have an impact on society and the economy.

Because global warming can at best be limited to 1.5°C, adaptation to the impacts of climate change is becoming increasingly important. The Federal Council's strategy "Adaptation to climate change in Switzerland" sets the framework for the coordinated actions of federal agencies in adapting to climate change.
