Sector agreements

The Environmental Protection Act (EPA, Art. 41a) and the CO2 Act (Art. 3 para. 4) enable the Confederation to conclude agreements with sectors of the economy.

These agreements are concluded only with whole sectors of the economy (industries). They contain, for example, quantitative reduction targets of pollutants or greenhouse gases and define principles of efficient use, the recycling of a pollutant (good practice), and the disposal or introduction of new technologies.

In the field of climate, the following agreements have been concluded:

Voluntary industry solution for SF6

The voluntary industry solution has the goal of
limiting consumption and emissions of SF6 as far as possible. It is coordinated by Swissmem.

Target agreement DETEC waste-recycling plants CH

The agreement has the aim of reducing emissions from
the incineration of waste and providing incentives for improving energy efficiency in municipal waste incineration plants (MWI).

The Environmental Protection Act also empowers the cantons to conclude such agreements with sectors of the economy.
