Switzerland’s international forest policy ranges between safeguarding the country’s own interests and acknowledging our international responsibilities, seeking effective and realistic solutions for existing and emerging problems and challenges.
One aspect of Switzerland’s international forest policy concerns the multilateral level of global forest-related conventions and processes. Policy is formulated and implemented under the leadership of FOEN and in close cooperation with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO). In addition, at European level there are various processes that are essential for Switzerland’s forest and timber policy.
Switzerland’s international forest policy is aligned with the goals of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, and the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests 2017–2030.
