Costs of climate change

Climate change is already having a noticeable impact on Switzerland. Drier summers, more frequent heavy downpours and more days of extreme heat are causing significant damage and costs, for example through falling crop yields, rising healthcare costs and damage to property.

A study by the NCCS-Impacts programme examining the financial impact of specific climate risks in Switzerland reveals just how high the costs are and how adaptation measures can limit future damage.

About the NCCS-Impacts programme

The NCCS-Impacts programme has developed practical climate services for the environment, the economy and society through a number of cross-sectoral studies. These are intended to serve as a basis for decision-making by stakeholders from politics, public administration, the private sector and research when implementing measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. The NCCS-Impacts programme is jointly supported by all members of the NCCS. A comprehensive overview bringing together all the results will be available from autumn 2026.
