Environmental report 2022

The Environment Switzerland report is published every four years by the Federal Council in fulfilment of its statutory mandate to provide information under the Environmental Protection Act (Art. 10f). This latest report, Environment Switzerland 2022, presents an overview of the current state and trends of the environment in Switzerland and of Switzerland’s environmental impact. It assesses the measures taken by the federal government to improve the quality of the environment and identifies areas in which further action is required.

State-of-the-environment reports at the international level

As a member of the European Environment Agency, the OECD and the UN (UNECE, UNEP), Switzerland participates in the publication of international environment reports.

The Environment in Europe – State and Outlook 2020

04.12.2019 – Despite considerable progress, Europe continues to face great environmental challenges. This is the conclusion reached in the new Environment Report from the European Environment Agency (EEA). Compared with its neighbouring countries, Switzerland received mixed scores depending on the environmental sector concerned.

The environment in Europe – current status and outlook for 2025

The Europe’s Environment 2025 report shows that although progress has been made, Europe continues to face major challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and the overuse of resources. Switzerland is following a similar trajectory: while air quality and forest health are improving, the ecological footprint per capita remains above sustainable levels.
