Data: Greenhouse gas emissions in Switzerland
Data on Switzerland’s greenhouse gas emissions are included in Switzerland’s greenhouse gas inventory. National reporting in the context of the CO2 Act and international reporting in the context of the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement are based on this data.
CO₂ statistics: Emissions from thermal and motor fuels
The CO2 statistics show the development in CO2 emissions from thermal and motor fuels and so illustrate the effectiveness of climate policy measures in the energy sector. As the amount of energy required for heating is heavily dependent on weather conditions, the CO2 statistics also show the development in CO2 emissions from thermal fuels corrected for weather conditions. The CO2 statistics are updated annually in July with the data up to the previous year.
Switzerland's greenhouse gas inventory
The greenhouse gas inventory contains comprehensive emissions statistics in accordance with the requirements of the UN Climate Convention. Switzerland's national and international reduction targets are assessed on this basis.
Climate Reporting
Public information on the implementation of commitments under the UN Climate Change Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.
Cantonal reporting
The cantons are responsible for reducing CO2 emissions from buildings and submit reports on this topic to the federal government.
CO2 calculator for buildings
The interactive CO2 calculator for buildings provides climate and energy-relevant information for all Swiss residential buildings. It is possible to estimate for all buildings how much CO2 is emitted under standard conditions. This creates transparency around climate and energy policy in the buildings sector and contributes to achieving Swiss climate targets. Under Switzerland's long-term climate strategy, the country's building stock should have net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
Cadastre of Switzerland's greenhouse gas balance
Cadastres display the emissions and removals based on Switzerland’s greenhouse gas inventory distributed geographically on the Swiss territory.
