Swiss timber harvest increased to 4.9 million cubic metres in 2025
Swiss timber harvests totalled just under 4.9 million cubic metres in 2025, 1.1 per cent higher than the previous year. There was a slight decrease in the sawlog and industrial roundwood harvests, while the amount of fuel wood harvested continued to increase. The wood chip share of the total harvest – now 30% – has been growing for years. This means that the share of fuel wood in the total timber harvest has doubled in the last 20 years, as shown by the latest Forestry Statistics published by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
Faster to stable mobile networks
Mobile communications are indispensable for the public and the economy. To facilitate the expansion of communication networks, the Federal Council intends to amend the procedure for commissioning mobile phone masts. On 12 December, it launched a consultation on a revision of the Telecommunications Act. The bill creates the necessary framework conditions to provide reliable mobile phone coverage and protect the public and the environment. The consultation closes on 31 March 2026.
