Movements of waste

The composition and characteristics of special waste and other waste with mandatory controls make particular technical and organisational measures necessary for their disposal according to environmentally compatible standards.

The measures comprise identification of the waste, transparent transfer procedures, the operating licence and reporting obligations for disposal firms, guidelines for the environmentally compatible treatment and mandatory authorisation of transboundary movements. The procedures to control these measures are regulated in the Ordinance on Movements of Waste (VeVA) and the DETEC Ordinance on Lists for the Movements of Waste. The VeVA also implements the ordinances of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal and the provisions of the OECD Decision on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Waste.
