Adaptation to climate change funding programme – Adapt+

The risks posed by climate change are increasing. What does this mean for Switzerland? And how can we face these challenges, find solutions and take action? To do this, the Confederationhas launched the Adapt+ funding programme to promote measures for adapting to climate change. Under the leadership of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), the Confederationt is therefore supporting the implementation of specific adaptation measures.

The Adapt+ funding programme in detail

Climate change is progressing and Switzerland, too, must find ways of adapting to it. To do this, the Confederation has launched the Adapt+ funding programme to promote measures for adapting to climate change. Are you planning a project to add greenery to public spaces, create more shade in the city centre or implement the concept of a sponge city? Are you looking for ways to use water more efficiently so you are better prepared for dry periods in summer? Check whether your project could receive funding. Below you will find key information on support.

Here you will find key information on the Adapt+ funding criteria. Please also refer to the FOEN enforcement notification and the list of measures and specific examples.

Submitting an application to the Adapt+ funding programme

Here you will find details on how to submit an application for an adaptation project to Adapt+.

The goal is to support measures to adapt to climate change in Switzerland so that we as a society can adapt more quickly and more effectively to its effects.

Information on the second round of funding in 2026

In 2026, multiplication projects in all areas of climate change adaptation can once again be submitted. The second round of funding begins on 29 January and ends on 31 March 2026.

Applications submitted early will be checked for formal correctness. This helps to avoid rejections due to missing documents or formal errors. Applications submitted by 27 February 2026 will be considered for this unformal preliminary review of the formal criteria.

Adapt+ in brief

Since 2025, the federal programme Adapt+ has been promoting measures and projects that minimise the risks resulting from climate change, that protect the population, material assets and natural resources, and that increase the capacity of society, the economy and the environment to adapt to the changes ahead.

In this way, the federal government can support the cantons, communes, regions, associations, businesses and organisations in actively adapting to climate change and taking future-proof measures. In addition to this support, Adapt+ will facilitate the transfer of knowledge between the authorities, businesses and research institutions, and help create synergies.

Prospective project organisers were able to secure support in 2025 in an initial round for projects that had already been successfully applied elsewhere. The goal: to multiply these solutions as quickly as possible. A second round of funding for multiplication projects will begin in early 2026.

Information on the first Adapt+ funding round in 2025

The Adapt+ funding programme was successfully launched in August 2025. A panel of experts has examined the 105 applications submitted. A total of 40 multiplication projects will receive CHF 3.5 million in financial support. These are proven measures that can be implemented elsewhere. The selected projects come primarily from cities and municipalities throughout Switzerland and focus in particular on issues such as heat, drought, urban greening, and water management.

Which projects are currently eligible for support?

The programme supports measures and projects that strengthen Switzerland's resilience to the effects of climate change and thus contribute to ensuring our quality of life. Here are some examples of the kind of project that will be eligible for funding:

  • Action plans to protect the public during heatwaves
  • Appropriate management of water resources in risk areas
  • Close-to-nature design and networking of watercourses
  • Climate-adapted, close-to-nature design of green and open spaces to reduce urban heat islands
  • Use of climate-adapted building materials
  • Planning and implementation of concepts for sponge towns and cities
  • Shading with trees and shrubs adapted to the location and climate

In addition to the planning and application of measures, upstream work such as climate risk analyses, impact analyses, drawing up guidelines, etc. may also be funded. The FOEN publishes a list of examples of eligible measures, which is updated regularly.
