Importkontrolle von Holzverpackungen
Particularly dangerous pests, such as the Asian longhorned beetle, threaten our forest ecosystems. Wood packaging used in international trade of goods must be treated and marked to prevent the introduction of these organisms. The Federal Plant Protection Service (FPPS, a service under the joint responsibility of the Federal Office for the Environment and the Federal Office for Agriculture), controls the quality of wood packaging based on the risks they present. It orders the destruction of non-compliant packaging.
Compared to other countries, the control system in Switzerland is well developed. Far more than the threshold value of the implementing regulation (EU) 2024/288 is checked. Wooden packaging is controlled based on risk.
The analysis is based on annual wooden packaging inspections. The indicator provides information on the percentage of wooden packaging of risk goods from third countries controlled by the Swiss Federal Plant Protection Service. Risk goods are defined in the FOEN ordinance on phytosanitary measures for forests.
