2008 population survey. Future coexistence with the beaver in Switzerland
Two hundred years after its disappearance, the beaver has become well established again in Switzerland. Its reintroduction between 1956 and 1977 is a success story of Swiss species protection. Following years of slow population growth, 1600 beavers now populate our watercourses again, as demonstrated by a survey carried out in winter 2007/08.
