Swiss timber harvest increased by 4% in 2022

Neuchâtel, 19.07.2023 - The Swiss timber harvest in 2022 was 5.2 million m3 – an increase of 4% compared with 2021. The increase was striking, both for sawlogs and veneer logs (+4%) and for fuel wood (+7%), the two most important types. The energy crisis, the demand for wood for construction and the resulting rising sales prices for wood also put private forest owners on the map, as they thus found a favourable market for sawlogs and veneer logs as well as fuel wood. These are some of the findings from the Federal Statistical Office’s (FSO) Swiss Forestry Statistics and from the test forestry operations network run by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN).
