A basis for surface water assessment and water development projects.

With the typology of rivers, a structured and manageable grouping of the diversity of Swiss rivers is now available. The typology describes the potentially undisturbed state of river sections using abiotic criteria (target state). Man-made interventions and disturbances are not accounted for. The information on target state provided by the typology is an essential basis for assessing the ecological state of rivers and a useful guidance for rehabilitation measures. A dataset, maps and river type portraits are available along with this report to assist with practical application.
