Heating energy consumption
This indicator shows the quantity of fossil fuels (oil products, gas and coal) we consume each year for heating purposes. The data are taken from the overall energy statistics of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and are used for processing the air pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions inventory (EMIS) (extract from Principality of Liechtenstein, etc.). All data relating to import, export, sales and storage of oil products, processing of crude oil in refineries, etc., are provided by Carbura (a Swiss organisation for the import of liquid fuels and combustibles) and the Swiss Oil Association. The SFOE estimates consumption on the basis of surveys and empirical values. For gas, the Swiss Gas Industry Association provides the SFOE with annual import figures (basic data). Following the dissolution of the central coal import organisation in 1997/98, coal import and export statistics are kept by the customs authorities.
