Carcinogenic substances are among the potentially cancer-causing air pollutants and in higher concentrations may also have acute effects on the eyes, respiratory tract and central nervous system. Even in minute amounts, carcinogenic substances represent a health hazard for human beings and animal life.

Data collection, model calculations, emission calculations.

Data are currently available on the following pollutants: diesel soot, benzene, PAHs (benzo(a)pyrene, benzo(b)fluoranthene, benzo(k)fluoranthene, indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofuranes and the heavy metals lead, cadmium and mercury. The information provided here is limited to the sum of the 4 PAHs and dioxins/furans, which are subject to international reporting.
