Funding for climate protection

From 2025, Swiss climate policy will not only continue to focus on existing instruments but will also place a strong emphasis on funding measures. The revised CO2 Act and the Climate and Innovation Act provide the legal basis for this. Both came into force on January 1, 2025.

The new funding schemes help private individuals, trade and industry to increase their use of renewable energy and, in turn, reduce climate-damaging greenhouse gas emissions. Both the CO2 Act and the Climate and Innovation Act have been in force since January 1, 2025.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

Funding is aimed at the largest emission sectors: buildings, transport and industry. It provides support for the replacement of fossil-fuel heating systems, geothermal and solar heat projects and the use of renewable gases. The CO2 Act also guarantees subsidies for renewable aviation fuels, overnight train services and procurement of electric vehicles for public transport.
