The FOEN publishes many maps and geodata sets on the topic of water. Many of them can be viewed on the Federal map portal. They can also downloaded as geodata sets for personal use.
Thema Wasser auf map.geo.admin.ch
Map.geo.admin.ch is the Swiss Government map viewer. Different topics give different views of the data they contain. The topic of water is one of them. It displays all the government maps covering the waters of Switzerland. There is a wide diversity, ranging from real-time water temperature in rivers, through groundwater protection zones to the potential for small hydropower plants. Subject-related data such as the water storage capacity of the ground or the distribution of rock strata are also included.
FOEN geodata on water
A geographic information system (GIS) or GIS software is required to use the geodata and services.
Clicking on the product name opens a preview in the federal map portal (map.geo.admin.ch).
The zip file linked under ‘WMS layers’ contains ArcGIS lyr files and QGIS qml files which refer to the respective service. All these services can also be accessed via the following address.
