The division supports Swiss climate policy and is the federal expert authority for mitigating climate change and the risks to human beings and the environment associated with global warming.
Main tasks:
- Implementation of the international climate policy obligations (Paris Agreement)
- Implementation of the federal legislation (CO2 Act and CO2 Ordinance)
- Implementation of measures to reduce greenhouse gases
- Development of strategies and measures for the adaptation to climate change
- Development of climate policy concepts for the implementation of the government's long-term climate strategy (net zero 2050)
- Review of the Swiss climate policy performance (greenhouse gas inventory and CO2 statistics)
- Advising the government and the public on the causes and impacts of climate change as well as measures to counteract it
